Rank Monday

On Monday, here is the Rank News:

  • With the USC loss to Stanford, LSU is now the unanimous #1 in the AP poll. The Tigers have moved up to #1 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, collecting all but two of the first-place votes (Ohio State got the other 2).
  • USC fell all the way to 10th in the AP poll, and 7th in the Coaches Poll.
  • Cal, #2 in both polls, has its highest ranking since the 50’s.

That is the rank news, now let’s get to the rankings:
Football pickers:

  1. Pelican – I had an ok week, getting Ole Miss wrong and going 6-3. But my overall record is 27-10.
  2. the Law – For the third straight week, he picked 7 correctly. But he remains one game behind me at 26-11.

Ok, here are my top 5 teams:

  1. LSU – solidified here with all of the chaos behind them in the rankings
  2. Cal – they deserve to be here, with big win over Oregon earlier
  3. Ohio State - pounded on Purdue, they could be dangerous
  4. USF – struggled with FAU this weekend, which is troubling, but they still won
  5. BC - they’re undefeated, which gets them here, but I am somewhat unconvinced

Obviously, USC dropped out. Their close win over UW was troubling, but everyone (except the AP voters) gave them a pass. Unwarranted, I guess.

Heisman hopefuls, as best I can tell:

  • Tebow – the kid is a warrior
  • Hart – keeps battling, 215 yds, 3 tds for Mich this weekend
  • Graham Harrell – we have to consider TT qb, his yardage is sick
  • McFadden – I still think he is the best runner in the country, hands down

Dropped out: Andre Woodson, who looked just bad against South Carolina

Before I conclude, some words on this season are warranted. Nothing has gone according to form. Up is down, black is white, right is wrong, USC lost to the Stanford Trees, so I don’t know what to say. What I mean is, all of this ranking and opinion is probably worthless, because it will be invalidated on the field in the next couple of weeks – LSU will probably lose to Ole Miss or Louisiana Tech, and Notre Dame will probably win out. I don’t know what to think, except that I live in high anticipation of each Saturday.
